The Cat Square

In April 1998, I did this wall painting on the crossroad between the streets Xuclà and Pintor Fortuny at the Barcelona neighborhood El Raval, a corner that now is commonly known as “Plaça dels Gats” (the cat square). This event took part of the project La Ciutat de les Paraules (the words city) promoted by a group of people linked to the MACBA, and supported by the city council. This project consisted in several ephemeral artistic interventions in deteriorated spaces of the neighborhood. However, some of them survived such as the cats of my wall, in this case saved by the city council at the request of the neighbors who had adopted them. The wall together with the cats have been restored twice, last time in March of 2015.
