Arnal Ballester (Barcelona 1955)

He has spent most of his work in publishing, as a book illustrator and as a cover artist.

In 1993 won the National Children’s Book Illustration from the Ministry of Culture in 1994, the Illustrators of the Year Award Book of the Fiera di Bologna Ragazzi per-UNICEF and the 1995 Critics Prize “Serra d’Or” In all three cases for his work on the series The artistic Fricandó cases (Ediciones Destino), designed together with Montse Ginesta, author of the texts, to bring contemporary art to the world of children.

In 1996 he was part of the 30 global illustrators selected for the exhibition The Secret Garden, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Bologna Fair.

In 2005, the sample was selected for illustration Ilustrísimos.Panorama children and youth in Spain, which was exhibited at the Bologna Book Fair, with Spain as guest country.

From 1998 he devoted himself mainly press illustration, working with various Spanish journals (EL PAIS,

El Mundo, Grupo Z ,…) magazines and other countries (International Herald Tribune …), but it has never left the children’s edition. Proof of this is the story in pictures Paraules No tinc (Mediavaca1998.)-White Raven selection 2001 -, or the latest Chamari-book of nursery rhymes of Venezuelan poet Eugenio Montejo (Ediciones Ekaré Caracas 2004) – and Bestiarara (with text edited by Orecchio own Acerbo, Rome 2003).

He has also completed editing projects outside the traditional circuits such as the book Eyestrain (Ediciones Sinse ntido 2001), which contains drawings of margins, which have also been the subject of an exhibition of the same name has come to Barcelona, Paris, Seville , Madrid and Bogota.

In 2002 he entered the world of animation, and has since done work for the platform Digital +, Fundación Caixa de Catalunya and Animated Short Film Festival of Barcelona, Xinacittà. His piece “Friend Hulot” (Digital +) was an official selection at Annecy Festival 2005 and won the animation Junceda the 2004 edition. In 2006 he obtained a special mention for his series of bumpers for the festival Xinacittà.2005.
